Roast Beijing Duck - Yu Ding Xiang Restaurant in Taipei

This is truly a Chinese delicacy and a favorite for family or business gatherings.  Many restaurants serve roast Beijing style duck, but quality and taste can vary greatly.  In Northern California from San Francisco to San Jose, there are many nice Chinese restaurants that serve Beijing Duck (also known as Peking Duck).  I have tried many of them, and while most are enjoyable, they just cannot compete with some of the restaurants in China and Taiwan.

In September 2011, I had a delightful opportunity to visit many of the sights and sounds of China on a 3 week vacation.  I will spend some time in a later blog telling you more, but I just have to mention one of the finest Beijing Roast Duck Restaurants in the world…..Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant located at: 1-2/F, Nanxincang International Plaza, 22A Dongsishitiao, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China; 86-(0)10-5169-0329.  (Note, there are multiple locations for this fine restaurant in the Beijing area).

So just what is special about Da Dong Roast Beijing style duck…… 

EVERYTHING!  First the atmosphere is warm inviting and rich.  Second, the staff is attentive, friendly and very professional.  But most importantly, their duck is succulent, tasty, moist inside, crispy outside, and the table side chefs are masters at slicing and serving this wonderful meal right before your eyes.  The duck they served us was not fatty like most duck which can have up to 1/8” thick fat inside the crispy skin.  When they served it, this roast duck melts in your mouth with flavor and  texture that tempts your taste buds for more!  

Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurants are ranked in the top ten of ALL restaurants by many top food critiques.  When in Beijing, put this near the top of your "restaurants to visit" list.

OK, I won’t make it to Beijing this trip to Asia, but I had the chance to visit another fine restaurant that served a marvelous Beijing style roast duck.  

The Yu Ding Xiang 御鼎香 Restaurant is located at:

The owners of this restaurant are Wei Zhong Cai 蔡維忠 (and he served the roast duck for us) & Ching Rong Yang 楊慶榮.   

We had a group of 11 people for our visit to Yu-Ding-Xiang.  The main course, was the Beijing Roast Duck, but we had many other fabulous tasting dishes that we all enjoyed.

The image above is my favorite way to enjoy Beijing duck. Just take a thin flour tortilla and spread a small spoonful of rich plum sauce on top.  Select one or two pieces of fresh sliced green onion and then place one or more pieces of the sliced duck on top.  Then, Roll it up and enjoy a taste sensation.  This roast duck was so wonderful, that I must have had at least 6 or more servings.  I must say, this Yu Ding Xiang Roast Duck truly rivals the quality, taste, texture and flavor of Da Dong Roast Duck !!!

Every dish we were served arrived hot and was enjoyed by our entire party.  You cannot go wrong ordering almost any dish from Yu Ding Xiang 御鼎香 Restaurant's menu, so be adventurous. 

To most, the Yu Ding Xiang restaurant may be a well hidden secret, but for those that have visited and experienced the fine food, it is a treasure they want to share with friends, family and business associates.
